Fun way of teaching words! January 4, 2009 This is the first JLC book I purchased because, to be honest, the illustrations didn't appeal to me on the books and I wasn't sure the stories would appeal to my 3 1/2 year old. I'm glad I read the description on this one and decided to purchase it.
My daughter loves this book. Since the first night we read it before bed, she's had me read it every evening or before nap for a week straight. She has a hard time pronouncing some of the words, but she tries. She's also getting better with word association because we had fun with it in this book. Whenever I say "disgusting" she always responds with "yucky" or "ick". 8)
I'm now going to take a second look at the books by JLC when we go to the bookstore and am thinking about getting Today I Feel Silly: And Other Moods That Make My Day. I'm very pleased with my purchase and would recommend these books to any parent who has a child that enjoys picture books.
Wonderfully creative December 30, 2008 This is a very creative book. Our 7 year old grandaughter is reading and delighted in hearing this book read to her 5 year old sister. It's the kind of book that helps youngsters grow. You can't go wrong with this book.
Great book for kids! December 29, 2008 Big Words for Little People A fun book with great illustrations. Written in a way that children of various ages are entertained while increasing their vocabulary. Fun for the adult reading it too.
A Real Winner December 24, 2008 I read this book to my just-turned-three-year-old in Target and I fell in love. It's not so much the words - I don't think there were any "big words" in it that my kid doesn't already know and use, but let me tell you - the ILLUSTRATIONS!! Wow, the illustrations are a hoot! This is the first book I've seen by this duo. I didn't think the text was extraordinary - the rhymes and meter are sometimes clumsy and the "lessons" a bit banal and trite - but the illustrations take up the slack in spades. Highly recommend!
Keeping kids growing! December 13, 2008 My 6 year old grand-daughter is way ahead of the curve! I wanted a book for her to read that would pique her interest and keep her smiling. This is the one to do it. Learning big words and what they mean keeps her growing mentally and looking for more. Great book!
