Product Description

If you give a cat a cupcake, he'll ask for some sprinkles to go with it. When you give him the sprinkles, he might spill some on the floor. Cleaning up will make him hot, so you'll give him a bathing suit . . . and that's just the beginning!

The lovable cat who first appeared in If You Give a Pig a Party now has his very own book! Written in the tradition of the bestselling If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond's newest story will show everyone that Cat is where it's at!

5 out of 5 stars Great compilation of stories   November 19, 2008
I love all of the books in this series, so when I saw this one, I had to have it!!!

5 out of 5 stars A Pure Delight   November 18, 2008

If you give a cat a cupcake, he'll ask for some sprinkles to go with it. When you give him the sprinkles, he might spill some on the floor. Cleaning up will make him hot, so you'll give him a bathing suit . . . and that's just the beginning!

This parable teaches kids that if you give a cat a cupcake then soon after the cat will expect much more. The cat just asks for sprinkles at first, but next thing you know, the cat's dragging the child to the beach, the amusement park, and the museum, forcing the child to carry all its stuff, and then making the child clean up the mess behind.

The lovable cat who first appeared in If You Give a Pig a Party now has his very own book! Written in the tradition of the bestselling If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond's newest story will show everyone that Cat is where it's at!

A must read for young and old. Fun illustrations and a cute story as well.

4 out of 5 stars Just as good as its predecessors   November 15, 2008
This little cat is a welcome addition to the Numeroff menagerie. My two-year old loves it.

3 out of 5 stars It's as good as most   November 11, 2008

What happens if you give a cat a cupcake? Well, the cat may want sprinkles...and then some!

The premise of `If You Give A Cat A Cupcake,' like apparently the other books in this series, is the cat will then want one thing after another. The cat will want sprinkles on the cupcake, make a mess on the floor, to go to the gym, the beach, the museum of natural history, drop sand on the floor when removing its shoes, and so forth.

Like just about all good-quality children's books produced today, the illustrations are charming. The story is zany and would be fun for young children. However, I believe that the interest may wane a little for children past the first grade.

In all, `If You Give A Cat A Cupcake' is a good story, but not really distinguished in any meaningful way. As far as making this a holiday gift for your little reader, it's as good as most.

3 out of 5 stars Too expensive   November 8, 2008

My two older daughters are infatuated with the series Why Some Cats are Rascals ( Book 3). They have all three books from the series and cannot wait for more to come. The most recent addition to the collection was Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World. Following the girls infatuation with the cats I bought "If You Give a Cat a Cupcake" for my almost three years old son. Unfortunately the magic did not work. My son had some passing interest in the illustrations but did not care much about the story... Since he is not able to write a review I decided to do it on his behalf.
I must say that I am disappointed by the fact that this book was practically a waste of money when my son is concerned, especially that I found it rather expensive. I think publishers should find a way of making books more affordable for parents on a low budget, especially when small kids are concerned. Maybe hardcover is not such a good idea for small kids after all... "Why Some Cats are Rascals" are paperback and for that reason much more affordable. On a positive side I find the illustrations in "If you Give a Cat..." indeed very appealing.
