Great solution, great price-- if you understand child proofing December 8, 2008 These covers work great. They are generously sized and would probably fit most knobs. They aren't heat resistant so if your range vents under the knobs you will have a problem. Also, this knob cover is designed for knobs that have to be pushed in to turn and don't come off easily.
I find the litany of complaints about this product very odd. Such as:
1. they pull off easily with the knobs 2. my child can defeat them in 5 minutes 3. they are difficult to use
If your knobs come off easily then guess what? Putting covers on them will give your child more to grab hold of and your knobs will come off-- though your child still won't be able to turn on the range. If your knobs are old or worn and come off easy try replacing them.
All baby proofing products can eventually be overcome by every kid. Difficulty of use is a pretty subjective thing. I think keeping knobs in a drawer is 'difficult to use'.
The bottom line with all child proofing products is that they are a DETERRENT not a replacement for supervision (it says this right on the package). After all, did you move all your household cleaners/chemicals to a high shelf unreachable by your children or are you relying on 15 cent piece of plastic cabinet latch to keep your child from playing with bleach?
If these covers fit your knobs, and if your knobs aren't old and come off easily then these work great for a great price.
If you want to be able to leave your toddler un-attended in your kitchen then take your knobs off and move your chemicals to a high shelf.
Gets the job done October 15, 2008 I am always afraid my 11 month old will turn the knobs on the stove since he is walking. These are alittle oversized but easy for adults to open and he doesn't bother with them. Gets the job done.
They work for my boys August 26, 2008 This work fine for keeping my 2 1/2 year old from turning on the stove. He'll spin them around, but it doesn't turn the stove knobs at all when he does. The only problem I have is leaving one upen while I'm using it, then bumping into it and breaking it. So I'm buying some more to replace a couple I've broken, and for spares. I figure it's worth it, since on my stove, with my kids, they work well.
Not bad August 1, 2008 So far so good. Our 1 year old daugther started spinning them around. Good for younger kids who can reach the oven knobs. Not sure if they will do the job when she gets older.
3 out of 5 ain't bad?? April 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was excited to get "new and improved" covers for my stove knobs since my 1 year old son is much more curious than my daughter ever was! But, now, within 2 months of getting them, I only have 3 that work. One of the hinges melted causing the product to not open. We do use the broil once a week or so, but shouldn't the product be able to withstand heat? And more recently one came apart and the pin was not installed correctly to start with and we are trying to fix it. What a hassle. I do like the newer version of these they are much easier to use, we'll see if my son gets the hang of it too. I may have gotten a bad batch.
