Whats not to like?? December 31, 2008 I read some of the reviews before buying this toy! I must admit that I almost didnt get it because some here said that it doesnt work! Well, although is has No educational value, the toy does what is supposed to do. It was easy to inflate and my son loves it! Great toy!!!
Not worth it December 29, 2008 We got this for our daughter for Christmas. It's okay, but not great. Every now and then she will hit at it, but for the most part, she just ignores it. Her favorite part of it is actually the top, purple green and blue felt things coming out of the top of it's head. Overall, though, she goes more for everything else. Just to be nitpicky, the C batteries that it requires are a pain. We had to make a special trip to the store to get some, because we never use C batteries. Save your money.
Weeeeeeeeee December 8, 2008 My 11 month old loves it! So does my 2.5 year old. The 11 month old carries it around by it's hair and tackles it and punches it and laughs at the noises. She loves to say "weeeeeeeee" and the penguin says it too so we all love it!!
Fun for baby October 7, 2008 I'm not sure what the others are talking about with the bad reviews of this toy. My daughter has one and so does her cousin and they both love it. The toy is very durable and easy to use. My daughter enjoys knocking over or tackling the penguin and then hearing what it says. She also likes to carry it around the house. She started playing with this toy at 7 months old and it has offered lots of enjoyment.
Teach Your Kid to "Bat" September 7, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This was a compromise when I bought the Fisher-Price Crawl-Along Drum Roll for our daughter (Daddy picked the drum, mommy picked the penguin).
We have had no problems with this toy. You put in the 80's favorite size of batteries (C, nothing else but the Fisher-Price Open Top Take-Along Swing - Rainforest and an old boom box run on C batteries) and it's weighted fine. Maybe it didn't pop up because batteries weren't in there. The batteries add weight to make the whole thing work as intended.
It wasn't hard to blow up. The valve is more "industrial" than most valves, so I agree that it takes more than blowing up a small beach ball, but I see that as added quality and not a knock.
The only issue so far, is that at medium range, our daughter is scared of the blasted thing. Close up, she is fine with it. She "bats" it and no problem. Far away, daddy hits it and she laughs. But at two-ish feet, she screams in bloody murder at the scary attacking penguin with the creepy clown-like "huuuuh-huuuh-huuuh-uh-huh" that it makes when "batted."
And the last thing that is just my two cents, but oh well. There is no real educational value to this toy. It's fun. But really, I see it as beginning self-defense training. It says somewhere on the box that it teaches your kid to "bat." What the heck is "batting" but "hitting?" I'm all about the real toys and sick of this PC stuff, which is why I'll train her to kick the thing in a month from her Johnny Jump-Up. But whatever. I thought I'd just add that.
