My 4 Year Old Loves This Game! December 30, 2008 We have so much fun with this game. It's a must almost every night! We have had very few problems with the track --- it skips here and there, but for the most party, it's lots of fun. My son just loves it!
Better than expected December 30, 2008 Perhaps my opinion is tainted by the fact that I had VERY low expectations going in. I had read the other reviews and wasn't expecting much. But the price was so cheap, I thought I'd give it a go. My five year old son is very into board games right now and I'm trying to amass a collection so we have some variety.
Upon first try, we thought it was a total bust. All the problems others had stated, to the point that it was nearly unplayable. But we kept at it. First, we moved it to a hard surface, rather than the carpeted floor we'd been playing on. That made a huge difference in the accuracy of the car's counting. We also moved the car slower, as others indicated is necessary. We found that if you hesitate between each "space" and wait for Mr. Monopoly to count that space, it is nearly always accurate. My two year old had a very hard time controlling his moving of the car properly, but I didn't really expect him to be able to do much with it. He also crinkled the paper money, pushed Mr. Monopoly's head much too hard, and routinely squated on other's property. But that's a review of my two year old, not the game :) My five year old and I have played this quite a few times and have enjoyed it every time.
As far as educational, the counting spaces isn't all that new or exciting for my 5 year old, but the understanding of the different property values; rent; paying to, buying from, and collecting from the bank are different from his other games geared at his age level. Also, the listening to Mr. Monopoly during play is hopefully helping him with following directions.
Overall, I'm really quite happy with this game. I'd have even paid more for it had I known how much we really would like it. Glad I didn't, though :)
Be Patient December 29, 2008 If you have no patience this toy is not for you. I got it for my 4 year old daughter and the first time playing it annoyed both of us. We decided to give it a second try and we were able to make it work. Sometimes Mr. Moneybags doesnt register spaces properly which is annoying but if your child knows how to count you can work around this and its not a big deal. I only recommend buying if on sale. Do not pay full retail price because it is a bit of a headache.
Keep shopping. Snooze! December 29, 2008 Big disappointment! This toy, though very durable, was not quite what we bargained for. Intended for non-readers, this game did not hold their attention. We were better off wth Chutes and Ladders.
monopoly town December 28, 2008 good toy for its age group.. lets younger kids learn the basics of the older version of the game..
