Great concept but terrible sound! January 9, 2009 I agree with some other reviewers- the idea of this toy is great. Teaching a child to hear good music and to listen close enough to hear the different instruments that contribute to the overall sound of a piece. Having the power to turn certain instruments on and off is fun and helps one hear the music in a different way. But my god the quality of the sound doesn't even attempt to sound like a real instrument. It's jarring and when my baby first heard it, she looked shocked and cried. Eventually she got used to it but do I really want her to get used to 'music' that is so electronified and distorted? Would love this if they had focused on the quality of the music instead of just getting it out there.
Nice Gift Idea January 8, 2009 I bought the Mozart Cube for my 10-month old godson for Christmas 08. The package was quickly delivered and I was pleasantly surprised with the toy. I liked the rounded corners and the weight of the box, which meant it would survive my godson's rough usage. The sounds were also interesting--pleasant to hear for the first hour or so, but after awhile it started to grate on my nerves. It also sounded like it was dying, but that could have been the batteries... which we couldn't figure out how to replace...
Munchkin Mozart magic cube January 8, 2009 I bought this product online for my 16 month old granddaughter. I was a little worried when I tested it myself before giving it to her. In a quiet room it seemed too loud and there was no way to control the volume. But on Christmas morning, with 5 of us in the room, the volume seemed fine. She knew right off the bat what to do with it. Some of the tunes even had her dancing. I think as she gets a bit older, she will figure out that each button makes a different sound. Unlike some of the reviews I've read, my daughter-in-law, who has a degree in Music Therapy was not turned off by the quality of the sound. All in all, I'm happy I bought it because my granddaughter seems to love it.
Excellent gift January 7, 2009 I thought this was an excellent gift. Very sturdy, simple design but educational and entertaining!
cool for parents, too advanced for kids January 7, 2009 This is a totally cool product...for the parents. By the time the small child this is designed for could possibly appreciate what the toy teaches, he/she would be at least 5-10 years old and by then, the toy still requires patience. This is just a good idea that can't quite reach the audience it hopes too. I still like the toy, but sadly, it's just not for babies. (And I'm a musician with a broad mind for what my little one can understand---this is just too advanced.)Munchkin Mozart Magic Cube
