 Sounds better than it is December 2, 2008
This is certainly a toy that came from a great idea, unfortunately it falls drastically short on delivering the actual potential it should have had.
They list this as being for kids 3 and up, all this thing is going to teach a 3 or 4 year old is how frustrating computers can be. This is worthless for a 3 or 4 year old. For starters the main problem is a 3 yr old is going to have a tough time plugging the keys in and pulling them out on their own. Why they had to make the keys lock in so tight as if they need to be hurricane proof is beyond me? As an adult I feel like I'm going to break something it's so hard to push the keys in and pull them out on this thing. I had to take a small file and literally file away some of the plastic locking tabs just to get the keys in and out practically at all. This aspect alone is anything but preschooler friendly and there's no reason why it has to be that way.
The frustration doesn't end there either. I can open the same exact web pages in my regular web browser marginally fast. Try to do the same with this device and it's like being on dial up all over again. The pages load at a crawl. For a 3 year old they have no idea what's going on and that the web page is loading. Patience run out fast and they quickly loose interest. The PBS web pages are the worst, many of the pages also have adult advertisements on them that can be clicked on by the child, the thing then opens these pages into a blank pop up window that covers the page and has to be closed out with some help from dad. Some of the kids links on the pages don't work at all when using this, yet do work from your regular web browser. The button for the password prompt should have been hidden, or at least allow the pass word box that pops up to be ignored if the child accidentally clicks on it.
The games are almost impossible for a 3 or 4 yr old to play with the mouse. The Fisher-Price smart key is probably the worst one out of all of them and this is the manufacturers own web site. The games there require extended reading skills just to get through the instructions. Come on, a kid going to a Little People web site is not likely going to be a kid old enough to read paragraphs of instructions.
I don't think this is a good device for kids of any age. It's practically impossible for kids not reading yet to use on their own, and kids that are old enough to read aren't going to want or need something this dumbed down.
It was a magnificent and much needed idea that Fisher-Price came up with on this thing, they just too poorly executed the actual final product to make it of any use. The first thing they need to do is make the keys easier to pull out and insert there's just no reason what so ever as to why they needed to make the smart keys so hard to pull out and insert. The next thing they should do is make dedicated web pages that were designed for this device specifically to work with, and web pages that an actual 3 or 4 year old are capable of using. The internal software you install for this also needs to be improved so the pages load faster, the links that are supposed to work should actually work, and the links that aren't supposed to work like "sponsored ads" and "adult links" on some of the web sites shouldn't work at all by pulling up a blank pop up window when clicked on like they do now.
What keys are available for this thing Fisher-Price? I've searched your web site from end to end and can't find a list, nor do I find many of the keys even listed there at all that are actually available. After the sale support for this like a simple listing of other keys available is completely non existent, how hard would it possibly be for them to have a list somewhere of the available smart keys?
With no way to reprogram the smart keys this thing could be obsolete and useless over night. It relies on third party web sites that are beyond the control of Fisher-Price. That means all it would take is the third party web developers to redesign their web pages and this thing becomes completely worthless and useless with nothing more than a typical internet "Page Not Found" 404 error message when you try to use it. There needs to be an option in the parental control panel to accommodate this likely possibility so we can still modify the internal link as needed when URL's change.
This has the potential of being a great product! I just wish the people who designed it, and the web developers who designed the web pages actually had a 3 or 4 year old around to understand what they missed during development. It serves only as a great educational toy in teaching a child computer frustration as it currently stands.

I bought this toy last year for my 3 yr old and I was wondering at the time how much she would play with it or would it be one of her toys that just collected dust, but she loves the Easy Link and still plays with it everyday! It has so many different activities that she's still finding new things to do. I bought all of the characters and she enjoys every one of them. This is a great toy that has a little bit of everything and I would recommend it very highly!!

I got this for my [...]son (then 2) for Christmas last year, he LOVED it! He plays with it every day. There are so many great features with this game system. 1 - he can start it up all by himself, it gives him a great deal of confidence and independence that at three years old he is craving. 2 -It keeps track of how long he is on there. I allow him 1 hour during the day and 30 minutes after dinner, it's great way to keep track! Also no fighting, because he can see when the time is up. 3 - He can not get out of this system with out entering a password that only I know. This will be ever greater when he gets a little older and may want to go online (which in today's world can be very scary as a parent). It's also a great thing because I don't have to worry about him deleting something on my computer by accident. 4 - The pieces are very durable! He sometimes takes them out of the base and plays with them. They first time he did this, I got scared he was going to break them, but they seem to be very strong. Also if you go to KB toy as I did last year, I was able to get every character they had (at that point) while they were on sale. You purchased two and got one free. 5 - They are coming out with all new characters! This is really good, being he is starting to get out of the Wiggles and Elmo, and into Mickey Mouse and Handy Manny!! I would and have recommended this toy to anyone thinking of getting it. It is also so very easy to set up!! It takes up very little room and all in all is a GREAT toy!! This is one of the few toys that my son received on Christmas that he still plays with every day!!

I purchased this toy for my daughter last Christmas. 8 months later it's still one of her favorites and is used on a nearly daily basis. I like the password requirement to exit the game. Children that aren't old enough to figure out the password and enter it shouldn't be on a computer unsupervised! She enjoys that she can start this game by herself and change from one character to another. Helped her learn her alphabet by 2 1/2 and master using a mouse. Would recommend to others.
